Environment build! Build 0.15.1
New build!
I've gone through a couple build iterations, but I finally have a playable environment demo for you! The environment is mostly complete aesthetically, and functionally allows you to open doors and enter the computer state! Note: It is highly likely that small tweaks will be made to the environment from now to 1.0, so do keep that in mind as you familiarize yourself with this build. Lights, object positions, lightmapping, interaction controls, etc. are subject to change.
Super happy about this build, a whole lot of progress has been made, so below are the major cliffnotes;
- A main menu is fully navigable and interactable, minus the levels (or cases) which have yet to be developed. A full options menu is available which allows you to alter resolution, audio master volume, full-screen mode, and quality settings.
- The computer interaction system is mostly developed, but may be slightly tweaked (icon sizes etc.).
- A fully functioning notes application! If you go into the computer system, you can select the "AshNotes" application which will open this up. In here you have a very basic but functional note-keeping system, which will be utilizable as you navigate your cases in the launch version. You can write any amount of characters you like, though larger notes may be hard to navigate as you are limited to basic text navigation (arrow keys, backspace, etc.) but you can save notes anytime by clicking the first of three icons you will see in the top right of the window. This will open a dialogue which will allow you to name and then save your note with a limit of 10 characters. The next icon of those 3 will allow you to open any of your saved notes at any time. Note that this will delete any unsaved changes to whatever note you have open in the main window. The final icon is simply to close the AshNotes program, which will retain whatever information is currently stored in the open note. Another neat feature of the computer is if you left click at any time while IN the computer, you will exit the computer but the computer will retain whatever information you have entered and you are free to roam around and return to the computer to resume wherever you left off. This will be key as you navigate your main tools of investigation, the corkboard (yet to be built), world map, and case notes for example.
- A fully integrated world-sound system! As you navigate you will notice that just about everything you can do in this build will offer you some sort of sound feedback, including my favourite: whenever you press a key while inside of the computer, you will hear a range of randomized key-tapping sounds, which I have always found to be extremely cathartic.
That's about all for this build, but it's come a long way! Don't forget to download the build and play around with it yourself, totally free! Although donations are always welcome. :)
Jusqu'à notre prochaine réunion!
